June 2023 board meeting notes

In an effort to keep you informed of your cooperative’s operations and activities, the following are highlights of the June 29 board meeting.

  1. All directors were present, along with CEO Steve Seibert and Administrative Assistant Lisa Hinton. Also present were IEC CEO John Cassady and Manager of Finance & Accounting Amy Ramsey.
  2. The May 31, 2023, board meeting minutes were reviewed and approved.
  3. The membership certificates were reviewed.
  4. The vouchers were reviewed and approved.
  5. The director’s reports were reviewed and approved.
  6. IEC CEO John Cassady provided an informative IEC update to the board.
  7. Seibert provided an update on the FTTH/broadband project with PSC.
  8. The CEO report was the first item of new business with Seibert reporting the following items:
    • Seibert informed the board an open GIS specialist position has been filled internally.
    • Seibert reported the cooperative is currently advertising for an apprentice/journeyman lineman position.
    • Seibert discussed potential projects for the Bandon substation.
    • Seibert reported on a Cooperatives One meeting held June 29.
    • Seibert informed the board of a reliability article that will appear in the July Indiana Connection magazine.
    • Seibert informed the board the capital credit notices will be mailed to former members on July 20. Current members of Southern Indiana Power are no longer required to complete a capital credit notice. Checks will be issued in November.
    • Seibert reported IEC will be hosting the Lineman Rodeo again this year.
    • Seibert informed the board of the following meeting dates: Co-Bank Energy Director’s Conference, July 24-26; Annual Meeting Committee, Policy and Bylaw Committee, July 28; IEC Director’s Retreat, July 29-30; and NRECA Regional Meeting, Sept. 6-8.
  9. Adam Lock, safety and risk management instructor at IEC, performed bucket truck/pole top rescue safety training on June 13. Seibert advised there were no lost time accidents, and no public liability claims to report.
  10. Ramsey reviewed the IRS Form 990 questionnaire with directors.
  11. Director Gary Waninger was selected delegate and Director Chris Burroughs alternate to the NRECA Region I and IV meeting to be held Sept. 7-8.
  12. Director Randy Kleaving was selected delegate and Director Gary Waninger alternate to the CFC district meeting to be held Sept. 7.
  13. Seibert was selected delegate and Waninger alternate for the NRECA Indiana director election.
  14. Director Waninger reported on the Hoosier Energy board meeting held June 12.
  15. Director Kleaving reported on an IEC board meeting held June 16.
  16. Director Waninger reported on the ACES Conference held June 1.
  17. Chairman Jeff Vogel shared thank-you notes received from two members.
  18. The next regularly scheduled board of directors meeting will be Wednesday, July 19.
