July 26 board meeting highlights

In an effort to keep you informed of your cooperative’s operations and activities, the following are highlights of the July 26 board meeting.

1. All directors were present. Also present were CEO Steve Seibert, Administrative Assistant Lisa Hinton and State Sen. Erin Houchin.

2. The June 21 board meeting minutes were reviewed and approved.

3. The membership certificates and vouchers were reviewed and approved.

4. The directors’ reports were reviewed and approved.

5. As the first item of new business, Sen. Erin Houchin addressed the board reviewing SEA 478 addressing utility easements and SEA 376 addressing the REMC Act.

6. The CEO report was given with Seibert reporting the following items:

a. Seibert provided an update on Tell City’s proposed annexation.
b. Seibert reported on kWh sales numbers.
c. Seibert reviewed the 2017 IEC Residential Rate Survey.
d. Seibert reported capital credit pre-retirement notices will be sent to inactive members who received power from Southern Indiana Power in the years of 1990-1992. Active members will no longer need to complete a capital credit pre-retirement notice.
e. Seibert informed the board the co-op has completed an RUS requirement to perform a tabletop exercise of our emergency response plan.
f. Seibert provided an update on the MISO Coleman/Duff project.
g. Seibert reported the safety accreditation is complete.
h. Seibert informed directors the spray crew has completed spraying on the Evanston substation and is now spraying on the Tell City substation.
i. Seibert reported on pole treating. So far, 1,100 poles on the New Haven substation have been treated.
j. Seibert reported the following meeting dates: NRECA Regional Meeting —
Sept. 7–8, Legislative Meeting Sept. 13.

7. Chuck Tiemann, senior risk management/regulatory consultant with IEC, conducted pole top and bucket truck rescue on June 27. Gary Sheffer, loss control specialist with IEC, conducted hearing tests on July 25. Seibert advised there were no lost time accidents and no public liability claims to report.

8. Seibert reported on an annual meeting and marketing committee meetings held June 23. Director Randy Kleaving reported on a capital credit committee meeting held July 24.

9. CEO and board evaluation forms were distributed.

10. A wage and salary committee meeting has been scheduled for Aug. 25.

11. Director Gary Waninger reported on the Hoosier Energy board meeting held July 10.

12. Kleaving reported on the IEC board meeting held June 28.

13. Kleaving, Waninger, and directors Philip Meyer, Kevin Waninger and Jeff Vogel participated in BLC training courses offered through video conference by IEC on July 13 and 14. Director Dirk Stein reported on a CoBank Energy directors conference.

14. Vogel shared thank you notes received from IEC Youth Tour participant Elizabeth Dauby, the Iris Stein family, Jackson Ramsey, St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Ransburg Scout Reservation, St. Boniface Catholic Church, Perry County Democrat Central Committee and State Rep. Ron Bacon.

15. The next regularly scheduled board of directors meeting will be Wednesday,
Aug. 30.
