In the June issue of Indiana Connection magazine, Boone Power introduced members to its new optional time-of-use pilot program. Members can take a closer look and decide whether the rate option is a good fit for their household.

Unlike a traditional electric rate, a time-of-use rate varies based on when electricity is used. Members who participate in the pilot program can take advantage of lower electric rates during off-peak and super off-peak hours, while electricity used during on-peak periods is billed at a higher rate.

The key to saving on a time-of-use rate is flexibility. Members who can shift some energy use to lower-cost times of day may benefit from the program. Common examples include running dishwashers and clothes washers/dryers later in the evening and charging electric vehicles overnight.

Because every household is different, Boone Power has developed several resources to help members evaluate the option. Our time-of-use webpage includes detailed program information, frequently asked questions, and a personalized calculator that uses a member’s historical energy use to estimate how the rate may impact their bill.

“Our goal is to provide members with another tool to help manage their energy costs,” said Bill Conley, president and CEO. “For some households, particularly those with the flexibility to shift energy use to different times of day, time-of-use may be a valuable option.”

The one-year pilot begins with use as of Aug. 1, 2026, and goes through July 31, 2027. Members who enroll by July 31, 2026, will be among the first participants when the program launches. Enrollment will remain open throughout the pilot program.
