Ice on power line

Just hours into the new year, the KV REMC service territory was canvased by an ice storm. A messy mix of wind, ice and snow left 4,984 member-consumers in the dark.

KV REMC operations crews worked the next two days to address damaged equipment, downed power lines and broken poles. The weight of the ice on the power lines and trees caused power lines to break and trees to fall into the lines. By Saturday midday, crews had restored power to all member-consumers.

“We strive to provide reliable electricity to our members, but there are times Mother Nature has other plans,” stated Scott Sears, CEO for the cooperative. “We appreciated the understanding and kind words of support you showed our crews during the outage. I am proud of the loyal employees we have at KV REMC. This storm brought many challenges, but nothing stopped them from their commitment to working until the last member-consumer’s power was restored.”
