Kankakee Valley REMC is pleased to announce the most recent Operation Round Up® grant recipients. This quarter’s giving accounted for over $16,000 going back into our communities.

Knox Community School Corporation: A $2,500 grant will support the school garden that is cared for by the elementary school students. The school garden encourages students to improve their eating habits, gets them outside in nature and helps them participate in STEM activities.

LaPorte County Symphony Orchestra: The LaPorte County Symphony Orchestra (LCSO) presents a day of three back-to-back children’s educational concerts each year for over 6,000 students from LaPorte Community Schools and surrounding area school corporations, senior living centers and agencies working with individuals with intellectual disabilities. LCSO will use its $3,500 grant to produce educational guides for attendees of the concerts.

Coalition Against Domestic Abuse (CADA): The Phoenix House, operated by CADA, is a transitional home for victims of domestic abuse. This home offers women and their children returning to Starke County from emergency shelters a place to live for up to two years. The $5,531.05 grant will be used to make necessary updates to the home.

Shults-Lewis Child & Family Services: Located in Morgan Township, Shults-Lewis has been providing Christian care for children in need since 1956. In addition to residential homes, Shults-Lewis is accredited by the state of Indiana and students earn recognized education credits. The $4,000 grant will be used to purchase exercise equipment for gym class.

Pleasant Township Pool: A grant for $1,043 was awarded to the Pleasant Township Pool to be used to purchase a new battery for the AED and new swim vests. The township pool offers swim lessons, aerobics, swim parties and open swim sessions for families throughout Porter, Starke, LaPorte, Jasper and Lake counties.
