As Heartland REMC and TWN Communications continue working to bring fast, reliable fiber internet to the area, we’re certain you have heard about the Underground Agreement. Not sure what it is or why you need to sign it? Read on to learn more.

What is the Underground Agreement?

Simply put, the Underground Agreement gives TWN permission to visit your property to prepare your home for fiber internet service in advance of network availability.

When you sign the Underground Agreement, our field crews are notified that you are interested in fiber internet service. From there, crews will visit your property to mark the fiber path to your home and determine how much fiber is needed.

Heartland REMC and TWN don’t want to dig through your driveway or flower beds. They want to take the most efficient and least invasive route possible.

After crews leave their white markings, review the proposed path before any digging begins. It is important at this stage to make sure the route doesn’t interfere with any buried lines or equipment in your yard, such as underground fencing, secondary electrical lines to outbuildings, field tiles, septic systems, or personal property.

811, the national call-before-you-dig phone number, also will be contacted prior to digging. 811 will mark your yard for major utilities. However, it is your responsibility as the homeowner to notify us of any other buried equipment or personal property in your yard.

If you notice that the proposed fiber route interferes with any underground structures, please call 833-727-5563 immediately so the path can be adjusted. This is also the time to make any other changes to the fiber path before crews begin digging.

After fiber path confirmation, the connection process continues, including the fiber line bury, outside equipment placement, and finally, inside installation.

Why should you sign the Underground Agreement?

The Underground Agreement is the starting point for initiating fiber internet connectivity. The Underground Agreement does not obligate you to sign up for service, but rather protects you and your property by including you in the installation process.

Signing the Underground Agreement helps us by ensuring crews don’t hit anything during the dig. It also helps you by ensuring you are satisfied with where your fiber line will be placed.

After your fiber line and necessary outside equipment are installed, TWN will notify you, so you can decide if you want to sign up and select the best fiber internet plan for your household.

If you haven’t already, now is the time to take the first step toward the fastest, most reliable internet in town. Sign the Underground Agreement today!
