Kankakee Valley REMC member-consumers are fortunate to be served by an employee team made up of dedicated, member-focused individuals. In August, we said farewell to someone who has been a part of the co-op’s team for more than four decades!

Margie Poort joined KV REMC 42 years ago in a member service role and moved to her most recent position as plant accountant back in 2001. “Not too many people can say they have worked for the same place for that long,” Poort said with her familiar smile. “When I started, people still read their electric meters every month and everything was done on paper. Technology has come a long way.”

Working for the co-op, she said, has been a good job with excellent benefits. “I will definitely miss the people I work with and the true friendships that I have made,” Poort said. “I won’t though miss having to get up early to come to work.”

For Poort, retirement means opportunities to spend as much time with her grandchildren as possible. She’s also excited about traveling. “I’d like to go to Washington, D.C.; San Diego; Boston; Maryland; Wyoming; and Montana,” she added.

We will all miss you, Margie, and we wish you many years of safe and happy travels!
