A Boone County youth’s life of service is being recognized by Indiana Electric Cooperatives. Whitestown resident, Aubrey Griffin, an eighth grader at Our Lady of Grace in Noblesville and the daughter of Brian and Lisa Griffin, is a busy girl, especially when it comes to helping others.

Griffin’s favorite pasttime is helping young ballerinas at the Ballerina’s Academy of Dance.

“I help teach the Sassy Jazz class (a class of five- and six-year-olds),” Griffin said. “They look up to us, and I love learning to teach the next generation.”

When she isn’t on the dance floor, Griffin is often onstage performing with the Joseph Maley Foundation and a puppet troupe called JM Friends. The foundation serves children of all abilities by showing puppets with disabilities and allowing children to ask the puppets questions.

“They came to OLG when I was in seventh grade, and then, I went to a summer camp this summer,” Griffin said. “It makes me hopeful. You get to see how one act of service can change everything. Teaching kids about disabilities means they are not going to treat others poorly.”

Griffin also saves time for 4-H and the Mayor’s Youth Council in Noblesville. She plans to do something with pediatrics someday. Her mother, Lisa Griffin, is a resource teacher. It is because of this that Aubrey feels like she can make a difference in the lives of those with disabilities. She also says she is interested in marine biology and helping to prevent damage to the Great Barrier Reef.

Her faith is what keeps her active in service.

“He (Jesus) told us to go out and serve,” Griffin said. “That is what I am going to do.”

Another youth, Mckynze White of Westfield, was also recognized for her service to the community. She is a sixth- grader at Westfield Intermediate School.
