In the month of May, we highlight Bartholomew County REMC’s Engineering and Technology Department. This department’s team offers a wide variety of services to our members and employees alike.

Devin Thomas and Ethan Smith are valued members of this department. Devin has been with BCREMC for five years and his current role is field engineer II. He engineers line rebuilds, joint use attachment work, subdivisions and works with our industrial customers. “I enjoy working in a family friendly environment, and providing our members with quality service,” Devin said.

Ethan shares the title of field engineer and started his journey with BCREMC in 2020. He brings a great deal of experience with him. “I couldn’t ask for a better job. I’ve really enjoyed getting to know my coworkers and working directly with our members,” Ethan said. Together, they meet with our members to answer questions and engineer service to meet their needs.

BCREMC’s meter technician is Zach Derringer. He has been with BCREMC for three years, but has been working in this field for over 14 years. He often works alone and handles meter installation and maintenance, inventory and meter programming, and is in constant coordination with all departments to ensure the members‘ needs are met.

Zach Haywood assists employees on daily network, computer, and technology issues. He has been the network administrator for three years, and ensures company data is secure from outside threats. He also maintains and manages the necessary technological updates to keep our programs and operations running efficiently and smoothly. He states, “Every day is interesting because I face new challenges”. An exciting, new venture for him is heading up the BCREMC Electric Vehicle Team.

Colton Carden, director of engineering and technology, leads the team. Colton has been with BCREMC for eight years and oversees the daily engineering activities. “I enjoy working at BCREMC because each day brings me something new. From working with the member directly, to mapping and line patrol, my days are always filled with tasks I know will make a positive impact,” he said. He also plays an integral role in analyzing and implementing innovative technology at the co-op.

We are thankful for all the support and great work that comes from our engineering and technology department! They keep things running smoothly behind the scenes and with our members on a daily basis.
