Kids explore a bucket truck at a Touch-a-Truck event.

This spring and summer, we’ve had several opportunities to support educational programming for local students.

TOUCH-A-TRUCK EVENTS

Our line crews participated in two touch-a-truck events last month.

At events sponsored by Lebanon MomCo and Boone County Head Start, the linemen showcased a bucket truck and the tools of their trade.

NATIONAL ENERGY FOUNDATION PARTNERSHIP

Through our partnership with the National Energy Foundation, we provided an in-school presentation to fourth graders at Union and Stonegate Elementary schools this spring. The interactive session teaches students how electricity is generated and how they can practice energy efficiency at home.

If you know a fourth-grade teacher who might be interested in bringing this program to their school, contact Boone REMCs Communications Director, Mandy Saucerman, at communications@bremc.com.

SUMMER PROGRAMS

Each summer, we participate in our statewide associations two youth programs. Later this month, three local incoming seventh graders will attend Camp Kilowatt, where they will learn about electrical safety and careers in energy, and enjoy fun summer camp activities such as canoeing, archery, and horseback riding. Also in June, two incoming high school seniors will travel to the nations capital as part of the Youth Tour to Washington, D.C. The students will join others from across the state in a weeklong trip to explore Gettysburg, the Flight 93 memorial, and several historical sites in Washington. They will also meet with U.S. lawmakers and learn more about the government and the cooperative business model.

Boone REMC Staking Technician Gabe White will serve as a chaperone on the Youth Tour, along with employees of other electric cooperatives across the state.
