Its that time of year when tiny superheroes, goblins, and princesses roam the night in search of treats. Americans are expected to spend more than $11 billion on Halloween this year including billions just on decorations. If youre decking out your home for the holiday, keep these safety tips in mind to avoid spooky shocks and fire hazards:

CHOOSE SAFE DECORATIONS

OUTDOOR RATED: Always check labels to ensure decorations and cords are approved for outdoor use. Keep cords away from standing water.

FLAME-FREE PUMPKINS: Skip the candles and use LED tealights instead.

CHECK YOUR CORDS: Inspect for frays or damage before plugging in.

MANAGE CORDS WISELY

AVOID WALKWAYS: Dont run cords across paths where trick-or-treaters may trip. If you must, tape them securely.

NO STAPLES OR NAILS: They can pierce cord insulation use clips instead.

USE GFCIs: Plug decorations into outlets with ground fault circuit interrupters for added protection.

GENERAL SAFETY

TURN OFF BEFORE BED: Unplug lights and inflatables overnight.

CLEAR WALKWAYS: Remove tripping hazards, fix loose pavers, and trim bushes that could snag costumes.

From all of us at BCREMC, have a safe, fun, and frightfully good Halloween!
