In last month’s magazine, we explored how Boone Power’s director election process works in “Behind the Ballot: Understanding Your Electric Cooperative Election.” That article explained how members’ participation in the election each year is a key part of what makes Boone Power member-owned and member-governed.

As we approach the next election cycle, an important date is coming up. The deadline for members interested in being placed on the ballot through the petition process is Jan. 30.

In 2026, directors will be elected to represent Districts 1, 2, and 3. Any member who lives in those districts and wishes to have their name considered for the ballot may do so by completing a questionnaire and collecting the required number of member signatures by Jan. 30. You can find your board district in the top right corner of your billing statement. The questionnaire and signature forms are available at boonepower.com/board-of-directors

The petition process helps ensure that all members have equal access to participate in cooperative governance, whether as a candidate or a voter.

The eligibility of any petitioners and incumbent candidates is verified before their names are placed on the ballot. Even if you’re not pursuing a board seat, understanding how the process works — and participating by voting — helps keep our cooperative strong, transparent, and accountable to the members we serve. Stay tuned for information about how to vote in the 2026 director election.
