As Marshall County REMC prepares for a smart grid future, access to high-speed communications and Internet has become a necessity. Keeping our rural communities economically viable and developing a plan to improve the life of our members adheres to our seventh cooperative principle — concern for community.

To prepare for current and future needs of the REMC and our members, the board has made the decision to partner with Rochester Telephone Company to study the feasibility of bringing fiber optic internet to the Marshall County REMC service territory.

Marshall County REMC and RTC are working together on this joint venture or “pilot project.” The pilot project will involve members who are located near the closest substation to the REMC office, located on King Road including the Southfield, Forest Hills and Royal Manor subdivisions.

Marshall County REMC and RTC are still in the planning phases of this project. It is important to us that our members understand this project will be a significant undertaking and may take several years to complete.

As the plan develops, more information on which areas of our territory will have service and in what timeline will be forthcoming. Watch for updates in Electric Consumer and on the REMC website. Members who live in the pilot project area may pre-register at www.rtc1.com/remc.
