Each year on the second Friday of October, Indianas electric cooperatives come together for Community Day, a statewide day of service dedicated to giving back to the communities they power. This annual event highlights one of the core values that defines the cooperative difference: Concern for Community, which is Cooperative Principle #7.

For 2025, Jackson County REMC chose to spend Community Day at the Scott County Clearinghouse.

This non-profit organization provides food and essential household items to individuals and families in need throughout Scott County.

The Clearinghouse serves as a vital resource for those facing food

insecurity and works tirelessly to ensure that no one in their community goes hungry.

LENDING A HELPING HAND

Jackson County REMC employees spent the day rolling up their sleeves and helping the Clearinghouse prepare for the upcoming winter season. The team painted areas around the facility, spruced up the outdoor landscaping, and tackled general cleanup projects to get the property in shape before the colder weather sets in.

In addition to their volunteer work, the cooperative also made donations to support the organizations mission.

Employees collected and delivered canned goods, toilet paper, and candy for the Clearinghouses annual Halloween event, helping them stock their shelves and spread a little seasonal cheer to local families.

POWERING COMMUNITY THROUGH SERVICE

Community Day is more than a single day of volunteering; it reflects the cooperative spirit that drives organizations like Jackson County REMC year-round. By partnering with the Scott County Clearinghouse,

REMC employees demonstrated how small acts of service can make a big difference for those in need.

Whether it is providing reliable electricity or lending a helping hand to local non-profits, Jackson County REMC remains committed to living out Cooperative Principle #7, Concern for Community, each and every day. Together with other electric cooperatives across Indiana, they continue to power what matters most: the people and places that make our communities strong.
