Eric Flynn uses a saw to cut a board while Jeremy Cripe holds it. Ken Acton supervises several small classes as they all work on the tiny house project together. Boone REMC has provided a space for the class that is sheltered inside and large enough to allow for social distancing.

Boone REMC is helping the Lebanon High School Building Trades class adapt to the challenges of an uncertain year due to the pandemic. Because the class was unsure about scheduling and quarantine directives, they are renting the property from Boone REMC to construct a tiny house. The new structure will be mobile and constructed inside in order to ensure the flexibility needed for the foreseeable future.

During a normal year, the building trades class would construct a home on a property in the school district and then sell the home to a buyer, but this year Ken Acton and his class of 28 kids will work two days a week in the service bay area of the former John Deere dealership to make the most out of learning to build a trendy tiny house kit. The students have been building for the last month and will finish in May in time for graduation.

84 Lumber supplied the trailer specific for tiny houses.

The inside is six-foot car siding wood and the outside is Smart Cedar siding. The class will be putting it up for auction. They are working on the building on Wednesdays and Fridays.
