Board highlights in October

In an effort to keep you informed of your cooperative’s operations and activities, the following are highlights of the Oct. 30 board meeting.

1. All directors were present along with president/CEO Steve Seibert and administrative assistant Lisa Hinton. Also present were line superintendent Steve Fortwendel and accountant Amy Ramsey.

2. The Sept. 26 board meeting minutes were reviewed and approved.

3. The membership certificates and vouchers were reviewed and approved.

4. The director report was reviewed and approved.

5. Fortwendel provided an operations department update for the board.

6. The board approved the 2018 IRS Form 990 as presented by Ramsey.

7. The board approved a change to board policy No. 203.R4 Directors Compensation, Travel and Incidental Expenses.

8. Seibert provided an update on the FTTH/broadband project with PSC.

9. Seibert reviewed the 2018-2019 strategic plan action plans.

10. The first item of new business was the CEO report with Seibert reporting the following items: 

a. Seibert informed the board that NISC, the co-op’s software provider, reviewed and provided feedback on the co-op’s business processes. 

b. Seibert updated the board on certain RUS loans that have been paid off with cushion of credit funds. 

c. Seibert provided an update on unclaimed capital credits from 1979-1983. 

d. Seibert reported Southern Indiana Power employees participated in a flu shot clinic provided by CVS. 

e. Seibert informed the board Hoosier Energy CEO Donna Walker will attend the Jan. 29, 2020, board meeting. 

f. Seibert informed directors of the following dates: Community Day, Nov. 1; Indiana Electric Cooperative legislative dinner, Nov. 18; Indiana Electric Cooperative annual meeting, Dec. 9-10; and employee Christmas party, Dec. 14.

11. Seibert discussed the distributed generation rate for consumers with small power generation systems up to 50 kW. The 2020 avoided cost rate for members who produce energy and sell it back on the electric grid will remain the same as the 2019 rate of $0.0326/kWh.

12. Adam Lock, safety and risk management instructor with Indiana Electric Cooperatives, conducted URD switching training on Oct. 29. Seibert advised there were no lost time accidents and no public liability claims to report.

13. Committee Chairman Kevin Waninger and Seibert reported on a wage & salary committee meeting that was held Oct. 4.

14. Director Gary Waninger reported on an Operation Round Up trustees meeting held on Oct. 23. Five grant applications totaling $11,325 were approved for funding.

15. G. Waninger reported on a Hoosier Energy board meeting held Oct. 14.

16. Director Randy Kleaving reported on an Indiana Electric Cooperatives board meeting held Oct. 16. 

17. The cooperative received thank you notes from St. Meinrad Volunteer Fire Dept., St. Meinrad American Legion and Junior Achievement – Perry district.

18. The next scheduled board of directors meeting will be held Wednesday, Nov. 20, at 6 pm.
