As energy markets continue to experience volatility, Bartholomew County REMC (BCREMC) is taking proactive steps to support our members. We recognize the financial stress that rising wholesale power costs can place on households and businesses. In response, BCREMC implemented a monthly refund initiative for all active members receiving electric service.
This relief credit labeled BCREMC Wholesale Power Cost Relief on your bill helps offset increasing electricity costs. The amount of your credit will be based on your individual energy use (kWh) each month.
The electricity we provide members is purchased from our wholesale power supplier, Hoosier Energy. Like many goods and services, wholesale electricity is subject to market fluctuations caused by fuel costs, inflation, and supply chain issues. These changes are passed through to you via the Wholesale Tracker, which adjusts quarterly to reflect the actual cost of purchased power.
Since January 2023, BCREMC has offered this monthly credit that reduces the tracker charge to help lessen the burden of these increases.
On mid-June bills and those mailed at the beginning of July, the following rates will apply:
2ND QUARTER WHOLESALE TRACKER CHARGE: $0.014378 per kWh
RELIEF CREDIT: -$0.007268 per kWh
FINAL TRACKER COST: $0.007110 per kWh
This monthly refund is more than just financial assistance it reflects BCREMCs commitment to serving our members. Were committed to ensuring access to reliable, affordable electricity, even in times of economic uncertainty. We thank you for your continued trust and membership.
