August board meeting summary

In an effort to keep you informed of your cooperative’s operations and activities, the following are highlights of the Aug. 30 board meeting.

1. All directors were present along with CEO Steve Seibert, Administrative Assistant Lisa Hinton and Accountant Amy Ramsey. Also present were 2017 Youth Tour participants Elizabeth Dauby, Kyla Dilger and Kylie Shourds.

2. The July 26 board meeting minutes were reviewed and approved.

3. The membership certificates and vouchers were reviewed and approved.

4. The directors’ report was reviewed and approved.

5. The first item of new business was a presentation by Youth Tour participants Dauby, Dilger and Shourds.

6. The board approved IRS Form 990 as presented by Accountant Amy Ramsey.

7. The CEO report was presented with Seibert reporting the following items:

  • a. Seibert provided an update on the city of Tell City’s proposed annexation plans.
  • b. Seibert reported Hoosier Energy will conduct a member satisfaction survey of Southern Indiana Power members in November.
  • c. Seibert informed the board Southern Indiana Power received a three-year safety accreditation certification from NRECA.
  • d. Seibert reported spraying has concluded for 2017.
  • e. Seibert informed the board pole treating is ongoing. To date 1,311 poles have been treated on the New Haven sub.
  • f. Seibert informed directors of the following dates — NRECA Regional Meeting: Sept. 7 – 8, Perry County Chamber Annual Picnic: Sept. 7, and the Washington, D.C., legislative meeting: Sept. 13.

8. Chuck Tiemann, senior risk management/regulatory compliance specialist with Indiana Electric Cooperatives, provided regulatory safety training and discussed accidents around the state and their causes and prevention on Aug. 28. Seibert advised there were no lost time accidents and no public liability claims to report.

9. Seibert discussed the Hoosier Energy Wholesale Power Cost Tracker with the board. There will be no changes to member rates at this time.

10. Seibert and Director Gary Waninger reported on a policy and bylaw committee meeting held Aug. 21. The board approved the committee’s recommendations for policy changes.

11. Recommendations from the wage and salary committee were presented by Committee Chairman Kevin Waninger and approved by the board.

12. Gary Waninger reported on a Hoosier Energy board meeting held Aug. 14-15.

13. Director Randy Kleaving reported on the Indiana Electric Cooperatives board meeting held Aug. 16.

14. Chairman Jeff Vogel read thank you notes from Youth Tour attendees Kyla Dilger and Kylie Shourds. A member, Dave Lindauer, called in his appreciation to the line crew for the nice job they did restoring his power.

15. The next regularly scheduled board of directors meeting will be held Wednesday,
Sept. 20.
