The Kankakee Valley REMC Operation Round Up Trust awarded scholarships totaling $8,000 to six local high school seniors. This year, two $2,000 and four $1,000 scholarships were awarded. The recipients of the $2,000 scholarships were Sidney Swanson, South Central High School, and Jonathan Stewart, Washington Township High School. The $1,000 recipients were Natalia Gebka, North Judson-San Pierre High School; Bryce Maier, Crown Point High School; Hunter Vogel, Washington Township High School; and Trenton Olling, South Central High School.  

To be considered for the scholarship, students had to complete an application identifying their involvement in school and community activities. Applicants were also asked to write an essay describing a community or neighborhood improvement project. Within the essay, they had to describe the steps they would take to accomplish the project and prepare an itemized budget for the project. Congratulations to the winners and best of luck as your journey continues in the fall.
