Educational youth programs are just one way KV REMC can connect with and invest in the future leaders and contributors to our communities.

Operation Round Up Scholarships

Two $2,000 and four $1,000 scholarships are awarded annually to high school graduating students whose parents or guardians are KV REMC member-consumers. Students must be graduating in 2023 and planning to attend a college, university or technical school in the fall of 2023. Parents or guardians must be Operation Round Up participants by Feb. 1 for the student to be eligible to apply.

Camp Kilowatt 

Date: June 7-10

Spend four fun-filled days at Camp Tecumseh in Brookston, Indiana, learning about energy while making new friends, horseback riding, ziplining, swimming, canoeing and more! This camp experience is available to students completing 6th grade in 2023. Priority will be given to students of parents who receive electricity from Kankakee Valley REMC.

Indiana Youth Tour

Date: June 11-18

What are you doing this summer?  Your electric co-op wants to send you on a weeklong, all-inclusive trip of a lifetime to Washington, D.C. Monuments, museums, memorials, legislators, friends and history await you. This experience is available to students completing 11th grade in 2023. Priority will be given to students of parents who receive electricity from Kankakee Valley REMC.

Cooperative Calendar of Student Art Contest

Since 1998, Indiana Connection and participating Indiana electric cooperatives have held an annual art contest for Indiana students in grades kindergarten through 12. The winning artworks from each grade are then used to illustrate the Cooperative Calendar of Student Art that participating REMCs/RECs have distributed. Artwork for the 2024 calendar is being accepted now.

Youth Power and hope awards

The Youth Power and Hope Awards program honors students in fifth through eighth grades who are leaders in their communities. This program is open to all Indiana students in those grades. Potential winners could include church volunteers, active 4-H’ers or those who support local hospitals or community organizations. Up to five qualified candidates thoughout the state will be selected as winners and will be featured in Indiana Connection magazine.
