Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to share some good news with our members when Heartland REMC announced a decrease in wholesale power supply costs. I’m pleased to share more positive news.

Beginning with Sept. 1 use, members across all rate classes will once again see a 1–2% decrease in their monthly electric bills. This marks the second overall reduction in wholesale power costs in 2026, and it’s another example of Heartland REMC’s commitment to providing safe, reliable, and affordable electricity.

While a 1–2% decrease may seem modest on a monthly bill, it represents something much bigger. It reflects the work that goes into carefully managing your cooperative and making sound decisions that benefit our members whenever opportunities arise.

At Heartland REMC, we’re continually looking for ways to operate efficiently while maintaining a high level of reliability. Through careful planning, ongoing investments in our electric system, and responsible management of our wholesale power resources, we’re able to pass savings along to our members.

One advantage of being a not-for-profit electric cooperative is that our focus isn’t on generating profits for shareholders. Instead, our priority is providing the best possible value to our members. When costs go down, we’re committed to making sure those savings are reflected in your electric bill.

The electric industry continues to face many challenges, from changing energy markets to increasing demand for reliable power. While no one can predict exactly what the future will bring, Heartland REMC remains focused on making smart, long-term decisions that balance affordability, reliability, and service.

Seeing two decreases in wholesale power costs in a single year is encouraging, and we’re grateful to share those savings with our members.
