In July, Indiana Connection celebrated its 75th anniversary. The magazine, originally titled Indiana Rural News, was founded in 1951 to help electric cooperatives connect with their members and keep them informed.

As I thought about how to commemorate this milestone anniversary, I kept coming back to our readers and what they always tell me they enjoy most about the magazine — the recipes. Whenever I meet an Indiana Connection reader, nine times out of 10, they tell me how much they love the recipes. 

To celebrate our anniversary, we have created an Indiana Connection cookbook featuring more than 200 recipes spanning all eight decades of the magazine. This project was a labor of love for me. Going back through the archives, especially our issues from the 50s and 60s, was a real treat. It took longer than anticipated because I kept getting distracted by articles and photos from years past. 

What struck me most was how these recipes showcase the shared history and community of Indiana’s electric co-ops. They reflect the era in which they were published and offer a glimpse into what Indiana was like at the time. I thought about the many readers from across the state who took the time to submit their recipes, and now those recipes continue to create connections many years later.
