Every October, cooperatives across the nation celebrate National Co-op Month, a time to highlight the ways cooperatives bring value to their members and communities. For Southeastern Indiana REMC, this years celebration carries special meaning as we mark 86 years of powering southeastern Indiana.
From the very beginning, our cooperative was built on the idea that we are stronger when we work together. Neighbors came together in 1939 to bring electricity to rural homes and farms when no one else would. That same spirit of cooperation continues today not just in delivering reliable electricity and high-speed fiber internet, but also in strengthening the communities we serve.
Co-op Days: Celebrating with you
To honor Co-op Month and 86 years of service, SEI REMC is excited to host Co-op Days throughout October. These events are designed to connect with the community, and spotlight health and safety.
Highlights include:
Mobile mammogram program – Bringing life-saving screenings directly to our members.
Fill the Truck food drive – Collecting non-perishable food items to support local shelters and pantries in each of ours seven counties.s
REMC Community Day – Employees will assemble Coop Comfort Kits, filled with items for warmth, hygiene, safety, and encouragement. The completed kits will be delivered to Heart House, Safe Passage, and the Salvation Army, helping provide comfort and care to neighbors in need.
Each of these activities reflects the cooperative difference: members and employees working together to make a positive impact.
Living the cooperative principles
At SEI REMC, we operate by the Seven Cooperative Principles, which include democratic member control, concern for community, and education. Co-op Days is one way we put those principles into action. By celebrating with you, were not just recognizing our history were building a stronger future together.

As we celebrate National Co-op Month, we’re reminded that SEI REMC doesn’t just provide electricity and internet we power lives, strengthen communities, and work together for a brighter tomorrow.
