An incredible value

Electricity is like your home Wi-Fi. You don’t see it or really think about it, but when it’s gone? Total chaos. Suddenly, the kids are screaming because the TV or tablet isn’t working. Electricity works the same way. We hardly notice it until there’s a power outage — or the bill arrives. It’s the invisible force behind your morning coffee, warm showers, Netflix nights, and fresh groceries. And here’s the kicker: it powers all of that for less than what you would spend on a fast-food combo. To understand its value, let’s see how electricity stacks up against some everyday expenses.

Electricity vs. fast food

A combo meal — burger, fries, and a drink — might cost about $10. That same $10 could power:

  • A refrigerator for nearly three weeks (150 watts running eight hours a day)
  • 10 LED lights for over three month (10 watts each, five hours per day)
  • A large TV for 800-plus hours of binge-watching (LED TV at 100 watts)
  • A coffee maker for three years (1,000 watts used five minutes a day)

Electricity vs. dining out

Dinner at a mid-range restaurant might cost $20 to $25 per person. That same $20 to $25 could power:

  • 88 loads of laundry (500-watt washer for 30 minutes and 3,000- watt dryer for 45 minutes per load)
  • Your air conditioner for several hot summer days (3,600 watts running 6 hours a day, good for 12 days of cooling)
  • An electric vehicle for almost 600 miles (Average EV uses 0.35 kWh per mile)

Electricity vs. groceries

A basic grocery run — milk, bread, eggs, and fruit — can easily cost $30 to $60. For that amount, you could use electricity to:

  • Cook on an electric stove for 125 days (2,000 watts running one hour/day = 2 kWh/day)
  • Run a dishwasher for over a month (Average dishwasher uses 1.5 kWh per load)
  • Heat water for a family of four for a month (A 4,500-watt water heater running three to four hours/ day = 15.75 kWh/day × 30 days = 472.5 kWh/month)

Electricity powers so much of what we do daily, often for less than the cost of a meal out. Those few dollars go a long way in keeping your home running smoothly and comfortably. It’s a small price for a significant impact. While we can’t offer a dollar menu or buy-one-get-one-free deals, we can offer suggestions and answer questions to help you save on energy
consumption.
