Indiana Youth Tour to D.C.

Incoming seniors Corrigon Davis, Brogan Howard, Ashley Morford and Jane Spreckelson represented DCREMC on the Indiana Youth Tour to Washington, D.C.

Corrigon Davis, Brogan Howard, Ashley Morford, and Jane Spreckelson represented Decatur County REMC on the 2019 Indiana Youth Tour to Washington, D.C., this June. The Indiana delegation of over 100 students representing 34 Indiana electric cooperatives joined more than 1,800 other students from 46 other states on the Youth Tour.

DCREMC is pleased to be able to provide this opportunity for our local youth. Our youth are our future, and we can give them the tools to succeed.

Students visited the Flight 93 and Pentagon 9/11 memorials, Gettysburg National Military Park, Arlington National Cemetery, the Smithsonian museums, the National Mall memorials, the National Museum of the Marine Corps and more.

Delegates also spent a day on Capitol Hill where they met with members of Indiana’s congressional delegation.

Decatur County REMC sent Lily Greathouse and Jonathan Spreckelson to this year’s Touchstone Energy Camp at YMCA Camp Tecumseh in Brookston in June. The campers forged new friendships, deepened their understanding of electric co-ops and electric safety, and had a lot of fun at Touchstone Energy Camp.

The information students learn about electricity could one day save their lives or the lives of others. Activities are structured to  teach valuable leadership skills that students could someday use to lead our community and give students a better understanding of the cooperative world so they will see Decatur County REMC as a future employer.
