Christmas Memories

It is hard to believe that 2018 is almost over, and another year will soon be starting. As a parent, time goes by so fast whether you are working, going to ball games or running children from here to there.

This holiday season, take time for your family. Some of my greatest memories are from around Christmastime, and I will cherish those memories forever. I am blessed to still be able to make memories with my family.

I remember as a child my parents helping my sister and me dig a big snow fort. When we came inside freezing, my mom would always have a big cup of hot chocolate ready for us. We would get on each end of the couch, cover up under a blanket and drink our hot chocolate until we were all warm.

We would watch “Christmas Vacation” each year, and my dad would laugh so loud that we would miss part of the movie and have to watch it again to see what we missed. My mom would always want things looking nice and festive for the holidays, so we helped her decorate the house and bake cookies. These times are precious, and now as a parent of twin boys, I truly realize how important these memories are.

Here are a few ideas to help get you started on making some family memories of your own:

  • Sit down as a family and read a Christmas story.
  • Drive around looking at Christmas lights.
  • Bake and decorate cookies.
  • Decorate the Christmas tree as a family.
  • Play some board games on a cold, snowy afternoon.
  • Pop popcorn and watch a Christmas movie together.
  • Look back at old pictures over a cup of hot chocolate.
  • Make Christmas tree ornaments.
  • Be neighborly and take a tray of cookies to a few neighbors.
  • Go to a church Christmas program.

The list could go on and on, but I ask that you take some time out of your busy schedule to pull those children away from the electronics and spend some quality family time making some great memories this holiday season.

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and may God bless each and every one of you!
