LaGrange County REMC sponsored Taylor Sutton, a Lakeland High School senior, as its delegate to the Indiana Electric Cooperative Youth Tour in June. The annual program provides students with a unique opportunity to explore the nation’s capital, learn about government and leadership, and connect with peers from across the country.

Reflecting on her experience, Sutton said the people she met on the trip made the greatest impact.

“One part of the trip I will always remember is all the people I met and how getting to know them impacted me and my future,” she said. “I had amazing conversations, made endless memories, and got to meet some of Indiana’s brightest students.”

Delegates had an itinerary filled with educational tours, leadership activities, and visits to historic landmarks and memorials.

Among the many interesting facts she learned during the tour, one stood out. At Capitol Hill to learn about our legislative branch, Sutton discovered that the building is located at the exact center of the nation’s capital.

Sutton strongly encourages other students to apply for the Indiana Youth Tour program in the future.

“If someone asked me if they should apply, I would tell them it would be silly not to,” she said. “It’s an amazing opportunity to tour our nation’s capital, meet new people from all over the country, and make memories that will last a lifetime.”

“Thank you again to our REMC for selecting me to be your 2026 delegate. I am eternally grateful for this opportunity!”
