When Boone Power lineworkers compete at the Indiana Electric Cooperative Lineman Rodeo, the goal isn’t simply to earn a trophy. The annual event is an opportunity to sharpen the skills they rely on every day to safely build, maintain, and restore our local electric distribution system.

Hosted by our statewide trade association, Indiana Electric Cooperatives, the rodeo brings together lineworkers from across the state for two days of competition at the Hendricks County Fairgrounds in Danville. The 2026 event is scheduled for Aug. 20 and 21.

Every event is designed to simulate real-world tasks, allowing participants to demonstrate and perfect the training, precision, and teamwork required on the job.

This year’s individual competitions include clip-in, hurtman rescue, and knot tying. Team events feature a three-phase dead-end changeout, hurtman rescue, and a fiberglass crossarm changeout. While competitors are timed, safety and proper work practices are just as important as speed.

“Every event at the rodeo reflects the type of work our lineworkers perform in the field,” said Jeff Dickerson, Boone Power director of operations. “It’s an opportunity to practice those skills in a competitive environment while reinforcing the safety standards that guide everything we do. We’re proud of the dedication our lineworkers have to their craft and to serving our members.”
