It’s spare change that makes a big difference. Thanks to our participating members for allowing their bills to be rounded up each month to the nearest dollar. Since the beginning of the program in January 2002, over $763,000 has been given back to our community. The money has been used by organizations who serve all sectors of our community; youth, seniors, young families, and everyone in-between.
The following organizations received Operation Round Up funds:
Prairie Heights Helping Hands — received $2,000 to pay off student lunch accounts. Prairie Heights does not qualify for the USDA free lunch program at this time.
Community Improvement League Inc. of South Milford — received $1,000 to continue improving Austin Park in South Milford to make it a safer, more welcoming destination. The funds would be used to plant wildflowers (to help eliminate erosion) and mulching of the playground.
Kate’s Kart, Inc. — received $1,500 to purchase children’s books to be given to children when they are patients at Parkview LaGrange Hospital. The money will impact 222 hospitalized children and their families.
Wolcottville Community Initiative Corp — received $1,000 to help offset the cost to renovate Millstone Plaza in Wolcottville. It plans to turn the building into a pavilion with a history wall and seating for children for when they are waiting on the school bus.
Mongo Community Development Association — received $1,000 to replace aging playground equipment that is no longer safe.
LaGrange County 4-H Fair — received $2,000 to make significant upgrades to the main restroom, including ventilation, plumbing, shower infrastructure, toilet replacement, and sealing of floors and walls. The fair also plans on upgrading the water heater.
LaGrange County Hope, Inc. — received $2,000 to provide meals and snacks to children during spring and Christmas breaks. The organization also delivers food to around 477 youth from the first of June until the start of school.
