Harrison REMC is pleased to invite you to the 88th Annual Meeting! We are giving members multiple options to attend and vote. The first day will be Wednesday, May 6, and members can attend any time from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at the Harrison County Fairgrounds. There will be registration, voting, food, bingo, a children’s area, and information booths. On Thursday, May 7, from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., there will be a drive-thru-only event at the REMC office in Corydon. On this day, members will register and vote from their cars only. We have received a lot of positive feedback from members about offering these two options, and we look forward to seeing you at one of the meetings.

This past winter, much like last year, has been very cold and it seemed like the snow would never leave. In fact, January 2025 and 2026 were two of the coldest Januarys in the last 12 years. The freezing temperatures lasted for nearly three weeks and brought increased electric use and, therefore, some of the highest bills most people have ever received. Harrison REMC worked with members to provide some relief by offering flexible payment options — like extended time to pay and budget billing. If you would like a more levelized bill or receive daily kWh use notifications, please go to our website or call the office to learn about these programs. We are also excited about our new Connect to Save program. We will have information at the annual meeting fairgrounds event and you can also find it on our website. This program adjusts your thermostat for short periods of time when peak demand is at its highest.

Being an electric cooperative means that we are a service-focused, non-profit organization. Profits that are generated either go into maintaining and building our infrastructure or are returned to members who consumed electricity in the years the profits occurred.

In June 2025, we refunded $1.5 million in capital credits to members served in years 1989 and portions of 1990 and 2019. In total, the cooperative has refunded over $17 million to REMC members.

The purpose of a cooperative is to meet the economic and social needs of the organization’s members and its surrounding community. Cooperatives often have a strong commitment to their community and a focus on strengthening the community they exist in or serve. Harrison REMC is one of the few local utility companies in our service area. When you call the co-op during the business day, you get an actual employee who lives in the local community. Harrison REMC offers events such as the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, a firemen/emergency personnel seminar on safety, a recycling/shredding event, and programs such as Youth Tour, scholarships, Camp Kilowatt, electric equipment rebates, Lend a Hand, prepaid electric, and energy savings programs.

The employees at the cooperative work hard to keep your power on and restore that power as quickly as possible. During these times, safety and protecting our employees is a top priority, so again we appreciate your patience when you are without power. We are thankful for the members of Harrison REMC and are committed to serving you. We hope to see you at one of the Annual Meeting days. Please review this issue for additional information about the Annual Meeting, voting options, bill credits, and more.
