At Decatur County REMC, reliability is more than a goal — it’s a commitment. Every time you flip a switch, charge a device, or power your home or business, you expect electricity to be there. Behind the scenes, there is a complex system working around the clock to make that possible. As our industry evolves, so does our responsibility to ensure the power you depend on remains reliable — not just today, but for years to come.

That’s why we’re inviting our members to join us for an upcoming Grid Reliability Member Event, where we’ll share important insights into how your electric service is delivered and what we’re doing to strengthen reliability for the future.

This event brings together experts from across the electric cooperative network to explain the roles and responsibilities that work together to power our community.

Members will hear from Maison Bleam, regional director for state regulatory affairs at the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO). MISO manages the regional electric grid and coordinates the flow of electricity across multiple states, including Indiana. Its work ensures electricity supply meets demand in real time and helps maintain stability across the broader grid. Understanding MISO’s role helps illustrate how decisions made at the regional level directly impact local reliability and energy costs.

We’ll also hear from Matt Randall, manager for government and community relations at Hoosier Energy, Decatur County REMC’s power provider. Hoosier Energy generates and delivers the electricity we distribute to our members. Randall will explain the cooperative’s role in maintaining a reliable power supply and how long-term planning, generation resources, and infrastructure investments help ensure power is available when you need it most.

Finally, Johnny Schisler, Decatur County REMC’s operations manager, and I will share details about Decatur County REMC’s Reliability 2.0 Initiative, a proactive effort focused on strengthening our local electric system. This initiative includes strategic infrastructure upgrades, system improvements, and new technologies designed to reduce outages, improve response times, and build a more resilient grid for our members.

Reliability doesn’t happen by accident. It’s the result of careful planning, ongoing investment, and strong partnerships — from regional grid operators to generation partners to your local cooperative. As your member-owned electric cooperative, we are committed to making decisions that serve your best interests and protect the long-term reliability of your service.

We encourage you to attend this informative event to learn more about how the grid works, what’s changing in the energy landscape, and what Decatur County REMC is doing to keep your power reliable well into the future.

At the end of the day, reliability means peace of mind. It means knowing that your cooperative is planning ahead, investing wisely, and working every day to keep the lights on — for you, your family, and our entire community.
