LEANDER HOOVER (DISTRICT 6)
Leander J. Hoover is a 1999 graduate of Winamac High School and a 2003 college graduate of Saint Joseph’s College with a degree in music education. He has also earned additional class certifications from various sources. Hoover is employed by the North White School Corporation, where he teaches music. He was the school corporation’s “Teacher of the Year” in 2022.
Hoover has been happily married to Jamie (Layer) for 20 years. They built their house on 10 acres, east of Star City and north of Royal Center. They have two children: Kadence (19) and Kannon (16).
In his free time, Hoover enjoys spending time with his family and being outdoors. His favorite activities include attending his children’s sporting events, hiking, fishing, and cooking.
Hoover has served on the Fulton County REMC board for 18 years and has been the secretary/treasurer for 15 years. For 14 years, he has served as the Fulton County REMC representative for Indiana Electric Cooperatives.
Hoover has earned his Credentialed Co-op Director (CCD) certification, Board Leadership Certification (BLC), and Gold Accreditation (the highest degree for REMC board members).
He served on the NRECA Director Advisory Group from 2018 to 2020.
“I still maintain my enthusiasm and passion for Fulton County REMC; 18 years strong,” said Hoover. “I am proud of the work and decisions I have made for our members. My strengths revolve around director education, membership education, technology, and the youth.”
“Another one of my greatest contributions is the addition of Youth Board members,” said Hoover. “The youth have been a wonderful addition to our meetings. Their outlook and vision are similar to ours, but their thought process is different. They view the world from a different perspective. The Youth Board members have made many good comments and suggestions.”
“I take great pride in the Fulton County REMC membership, staff, line workers, and board members. Together, we strive for safe, affordable, and reliable electric,” said Hoover. “I take a ‘common sense’ approach when making decisions that affect our entire membership. In every decision, I balance my experiences in education with my youthful mindset. Couple that with information passed on to me by longtime board members, and then I make a thoughtful decision. It would be an honor to be re-elected again.”
